NORTH CUMBERLAND OHV RULES

Additional OHV Information:
Public use is allowed during all hunts. During daylight hours all users outside of the enclosed vehicle or outside of camp must wear, on the upper portion of their body and head, a minimum of 500 square inches of daylight fluorescent orange, visible front and back, during the deer/elk-gun and muzzleloader seasons.

No person shall remove minerals, including coal, trees, plants (including vines), or building stones from the area without specific authorization. Detailed WMA and hunting regulations can be found in the current edition of the Tennessee Hunting and Trapping Guide.

The area-wide speed limit is 25 mph. Organized competition events for motorized/non-motorized vehicles are prohibited. Reckless operation of motorized and non-motorized vehicles prohibited and citations will be issued. Reckless operation is defined as operating a vehicle in a reckless or negligent manner as to endanger the life limb or property of any person. DO not spin tires, do doughnuts, etc. A maximum noise limit of 86 dB for all motorized vehicles measured at 50 feet from the exhaust.

Trails are named and numbered with signs at trailheads and confidence markers placed at half-mile intervals. Trailhead signs have symbols indicating trail difficulty level and user types allowed. DO not venture off into fields, woods, or private/prohibited property. Be aware of logging and mining activities as you travel the trails and primitive roads.

Riding Tips for TWRA Units:

Safe riding is required and all minors are required to wear a helmet.
Additionally, all OHV vehicles must have mufflers installed that keep the noise output acceptable.
Turn off light bars with all oncoming traffic.
Keep stereos turned down to avoid noise violations and disturbing local homes.
DO not drive up or down creeks. DO not park in creeks. You may only pass through and exit.

Effective April 15, 2024, possessing and consuming alcohol in TWRA Wildlife Management Areas (WMA) is illegal. The rule applies to drivers and passengers of off-highway vehicles riding in WMAs. Tennessee’s DUI laws also apply to those operating OHVs on local roads and managed trails.

Alcohol is permitted at designated TWRA campgrounds and on public waters bordering or within a WMA. Drunken disorderly conduct will still be prohibited on WMAs and in those designated areas.

City of LaFollette

Local Roadway Riding Regulations

Effective July 1, 2017, it is now legal to operate your ATV or SxS on designated County and City roads of LaFollette roadways. You can now ride from the trail system into LaFollette for a shopping break and to enjoy lunch, ice cream, or fuel.

Operators must be 16 and hold a valid Driver's License.
They must operate only during daylight hours.
Must stay on designated and posted roads.
Must carry proof of Insurance.
All Riders must wear a Dot helmet, goggles, and use a seat belt if in a SxS.
Must lawfully obey all rules of the road applicable to other motor vehicles.
Any vehicle operated in the City of Lafollette shall be operated in a safe manner.
Regular safety checkpoints will be conducted to ensure that riders are following procedures.
